Located in the picturesque, seaside town of Largs, our studio is located on a tranquil lane, just off of Largs’ high street. We are right in the centre of town, and just a stone’s throw from the stunning seafront and Largs’ famous promenade. Situated just one block away from the train station, the studio is ideally located for those commuting in.
North Light Studio
It is paramount in our philosophy that students learn to draw and paint using natural light. The gentle, harmonious variations of tone and colour that natural light provides are unparalleled, and they help attune the student’s eye to subtle temperature and value shifts within the subject.
Our studio has the ideasl type of natural lighting for learning classical drawing and painting techniques: north-facing skylights. This type of light means that no direct sunlight enters into the studio, as North lighting is the result of the reflection of the sun in the earth’s atmosphere. This indirect light coming in through a single window creates a beautifully rich and consistent light effect.
Traveling to Largs
BY CAR:
Largs is just a 30 minute’s drive from Glasgow International Airport and a 40 minute drive from Glasgow City Centre. The drive is mostly on a beautiful section of the A737, which cuts across stunning scenic views in North Ayrshire.
A small, private parking lot is located directly across from the Atelier. If that is full, more parking can be found next to the train station, or alternatively by the promenade.
BY TRAIN:
There is a train from Glasgow Central Station to Largs every hour—and it is lovely journey with views that will whet your appetite for pleinair painting! Train tickets can be purchased in the station just prior to boarding, or in advance at www.scotrail.com .
If flying into Glasgow International airport: you can get a rail-link bus from the airport to Paisley Gilmore Street Station from which you can catch the train to Largs.
If flying into another UK airport: you will need to get a train to Glasgow Central, where you can then catch the train to Largs.
