Apply for an artist residency
Come to Ayrshire Atelier for your very own creative, working retreat in our beautiful North-light studio.
Join us at Ayrshire Atelier for your very own artist residency—a unique opportunity to put everything else aside and fully immerse yourself in your creative process, all within the beauty and tranquility of our sky-lit studio on the west coast of Scotland.
Our residencies are ideal for both professional painters and students alike. We have two types of residency available: Independent and Mentored.
INDEPENDENT Residency Programme
Our independent residency programme is ideal for the working, professional artist who is seeking a beautiful, functional and peaceful environment in which to create a body of work. Residencies are a wonderful opportunity to put all else aside and simply focus on your work; often times a change in environment and a removal of all the usual daily distractions is just the ticket for achieving your artistic goals in an efficient and focused way. The beautiful seaside town of Largs is also a perfect place to rejuvenate yourself during your residency, not to mention the ideal spot for landscape and seascape painting if that is of interest to you.
Pricing:
1 week residency: £ 300
2 week residency: £ 500
4 week residency: £ 800
Mentored Residency Programme:
Our Mentored Residency Programme is ideal for those looking to enrol in a formal atelier programme, those currently enrolled in an Atelier already, and those who have just recently graduated from an Atelier programme…
*If you are an artist looking to enrol in an Atelier school, we can help you prepare a portfolio for application during your residency with us.
*If you are a student currently enrolled in an Atelier programme and you are looking for a creative and productive way to spend your summer holiday, our residency programme is an excellent option for you (it also works well when combined with one of our workshops either before or after).
*If you are a recent graduate from an atelier school, our Mentored Residency Programme may form the ideal transition for you into your new era as a professional artist. The period just after graduating can often feel daunting; you are finished with your formal training, yet still craving some structure and guidance on how to transition into a professional, selling artist with your own unique voice. This is where our our Mentored Residency Programme can help.
Our Mentored Residency Programme includes:
*comprehensive planning via email prior to the start of your residency
*An hour-long session at the beginning of each week of the residency in which to strategise and plan,
*30-minute critique on your work each day of the residency
*A ‘Final Critique’ in which we assess what you’ve created at the end of your residency and discuss how to move forward independently.
Pricing:
1 week Mentored Residency: £ 500
2 week Mentored Residency: £ 700
4 week Mentored Residency: £ 1,000
Discount for Atelier students
We are very happy to extend a 20% discount to all students who are either enrolled in or graduates of an ARC-approved Atelier. Please be sure to include relevant information about this in your application, such as where you studied (or are studying) and the dates of your enrolment.
(If you are unsure whether your school is ARC approved, you can visit their website to check. If you feel that you should be eligible for the discount even though your atelier school is not ARC-approved, please contact us directly.)
Available Dates:
Our artist residency programme is open from April 14th to September 19th. Specific dates are arranged during the application process.
Accommodation
While accommodation is not included in the above packages, we can help students arrange an affordable short-term apartment in Largs. Please mention this in your application if you are interested in our facilitating accommodation for you.
Criteria for Application:
This is a residency programme for representational artists; we accept applications from those who work in the realist tradition (as opposed to abstract, non-objective or postmodernist genres).
Artists of all experience and skill levels are welcome. We highly encourage those who work from life to apply, as our studio is purpose-designed for drawing and painting from life.
